Machining

Machining methods cover the various cutting processes that involve removal of shavings (turning, milling, drilling, slotting, tapping), as well as abrasive operations (stropping, grinding, polishing).

Usinage

Les méthodes d'usinage comprennent les divers procédés de découpe par enlèvement de copeaux (tournage, fraisage, perçage, mortaisage, taraudage) et le travail par abrasion (meulage, rectification, polissage).

Skiving

Machining process mainly performed on the lathe, starting with a metal bar and resulting in mass production of small parts such as screws, bolts, shafts, etc.

Cutting and weaving

Cutting processes are used to produce metal parts and/or part shapes, generally from plate blanks.
Parts are produced without removing shavings, using mechanical cutting or a fluid jet (water, using presses, plasma, laser).

Stamping

Process of forming hollow sections by plastic deformation of sheet metals.

Emboutissage

Procédé de formage des corps creux par déformation plastique des étaux à feuille.

Bending

Thin parts are produced from metal sheets, based on the (permanent) plastic deformational properties of the metal.

Die forging

Process consisting in printing an inscription, stamp or flattened, low-relief section, via pressure on a wet paper sheet, a damp block of plaster, a piece of pottery before firing or a resistant material such as wood, leather, metal, paper, plastic, etc.

Extrusion

Hot extrusion process consisting in bringing metals to an appropriate temperature then passing them, under extremely high pressure, through a die whose gaps produce the desired profile.

Foundry work

Foundry processes are used to obtain metal parts of all shapes and sizes, from a liquid alloy poured into a mould, where it solidifies. Foundry processes are used both for casting single parts and for mass production.

Fonderie

Les procédés de fonderie permettent d'obtenir des pièces métalliques de toutes formes et tailles à partir d'un alliage liquide versé dans un moule où il se solidifie.
La fonderie est utilisée aussi bien pour la coulée d'une pièce unique que pour la fabrication en grande série.

Forging consists in producing metal parts of a variety of shapes and dimensions, by heating the metal to render it plastic, then using high impact or high pressure to shape it.

Impact forging

This method involves plastic deformation of heated, non-ferrous alloys such as aluminium, copper, titanium and nickel alloys. The operation produces rough parts using tools known as dies, in which the shape of the part is hollowed out.

Joint welding

This involves welding prefabricated items, mainly made of sheet metal, formed sections, tubes, etc., machine components and assemblies.

Boilerwork

Boilerwork consists in working metals into the required shape, before they can be assembled by bending, welding or stamping. Boilermakers also manufacture tubes and containers as well as a wide variety of structural components, which can be on a small or large scale. This work is carried out by hand and/or on machines.

Surface treatment

General term designating superficial, structural modification of surfaces.
